How to check the speed of your Internet Connection

August 31, 2009 Leave a comment
I think it’s very significant to know the speed of the internet connection we are using. Since the service provider ranges the prizes by speed. We need to know how much speed they are giving us. How can we check our connection speed? There is a very simple way. By visiting http://www.beelinebandwidthtest .com it’s a very effortless task. The site downloads 256K file and checks the speed of the connection.

Considerations

  • A faster computer processes a download more quickly than a slower machine.
  • Heavy traffic on the internet or on your LAN may slowdown your throughput speed.
  • Results may be affected if you are performing intensive CPU work at the time of your speed test.
  • There’s a limit of 20 free tests a day.

How to block autorun.inf file auto loading in XP/VISTA

August 30, 2009 1 comment

Viruses, instead of maiking our lives easier, it makes our lives difficult by damaging our PC etc…

The main road that viruses get to our PC is bu USB devices. Windows by deafault has autorun of these allowed. The autorun file can be set to execute a file on inserting of the drive. The file could be a virus that will infect our PC. So disabling this horrific Autorun file is a must in order to prevent USB viruses.
Stop Run is a PORTABLE and FREE tool to disable the autorun file. IT can also enable the autorun file.

  • This is not an antivirus software
  • Its portable
  • Its Free
  • Its can enable/disable autorun file with a click of mouse button
  • Originally a spanish software, available with english translation by deafault
  • Can disable automatic installation of some softwares when CD is inserted
  • Disables the autorun file loading in all medias (CD drives, removable drives etc…)
  • Can load Cds that say “we are not responsible for any damage caused by the the inserting of this CD to a PC”
  • It does not clean any virus: only stops autorun file from automatically loading.
  • You need to login to an administrator account to disable
  • Easy and clean interface

Its worth it guys! Since we use USb drives a lot now a days. There are many methods to disable the autorun file auto loading. The basic way is to modify the registry value assigned for it. However I would recommend this as an alternative to many other tools that does the same task. I hope you guys found this tool useful.

Fix corrupted avi with DivFix++

August 25, 2009 Leave a comment

Its currently available for Windows , mac and linux.

Sometimes avi files cannot be played because of a corrupted index file , bad frames output. Such problems like Freezing while playing , distorted images etc.. are Possible aftermaths of a corrupted AVI (audio Video Interleave) format.

So what we usually do is Delete the File and re download the file. However redownloading the avi dosnt fix the problem since the file is uploaded already corrupted. I download Naruto Shippuden for my Younger brother and this happend to me twice. I did as I mentioned above. But I didnt delete any corrupted files. Instead I moved to my “corrupted” folder. In my 500GB HDD filled with movies and animes. The error message says something about indexing balah. SO I searched the net and found this great software which is portable and FrEE. DIVFIX++

A few settings are necessary before videos can be fixed. The first is to set a path for the fixed video files. A few additional settings are optional. Bad parts are cut out by default which could result in skips during playback. Probably still the better solution than a video that is stopping and not continuing afterwards. Errors can be written to a log file for further analysis but they will also be displayed in the log window.

A click on Fix will try to fix the video files in the list. Other possibilities are to strip or rebuild the index of selected video files.

Gom media player: The Best media player [ A must to have ]

August 25, 2009 Leave a comment

[Microsoft Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista ]

There are tonnes of media players which can play media files. Most of them are free.

Gom player is now my favourite media player and I claim it as the best media player out there. (well for me and many other people , it is)

This player has an extremely excellent GUI (graphical user interface) which you can customize the skin of the player. In addition this player can play broken media files and files that are downloading.

Main features of this player:

Play Broken AVI Files
AVI files can’t be played if the index is broken, or if the file isn’t completely downloaded. This is because the index is located at the end of the file. GOM Player’s patented technology enables users to view files with broken indexes or that are still being downloaded.

Excellent Subtitle configuration
GOM Player supports SMI, SRT, RT, SUB(with IDX) files for subtitle. You can specify margin, location, size, resolution, font and others. You can also enable shadow, view ASF files with subtitle, karaoke subtitle mode. You can even synchronize subtitle and video if there’s any mismatch.

Freaking convenient Playlist
If you run a video file and there is already a file with a similar name in the directory, it will be automatically added to your playlist. GOM Player has a similar playlist format as M3U, PLS, ASX and you can also include and edit different media formats on that playlist as well. It’s easy to create and edit your own multimedia playlist with GOM Player.

Screen Capture
Screen capture allows you to take a screenshot of your video directly from GOM Player. Using the Burst Capture feature, you can take continuous screenshots up to 999 shots.

Advanced Features
There are an endless number of advanced features. Customize brightness, contrast and saturation. Sharpen and add noise to your video. Try the audio equalizer. Repeat a section of your video with our A-B Repeat feature. Fast forward/rewind a few seconds using left/right keys. And much more for you to discover!

Codec Finder
GOM Player includes many codecs (XviD, DivX, FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, H263 and more) so you won’t need to install separate codecs for most videos. For those videos that require a separate codec, GOM Player will find one and direct you to a place where you can download an open source version of the codec. That way, you won’t get stuck with unnecessary codecs on your system.

Built in Support for Different Media Types
Along with different media format such as AVI, MPG, MPEG and DAT, GOM Player also supports streaming Windows media format (WMV, ASF, ASX). You can also watch DVD-quality videos with 5.1 channel audio output.

Extremely fast loading time
to open the media file, it dosnt even take 5 seconds. Also this player uses little RAM capacity making the computer fast.

skin customization, high quality mode, video pan and scan, and many other features………

The only problem I found in this media player is: sometimes, some subtitles dosnt load in an mkv file with built in mkv codec. no other problem is there in this player. (well not for me)

You guys can give it a shot. and eventually you dudes will like it and use it! In addition to this player, I use Media Player Classic provided with K-lite codec pack to play mkv files.Oh… the skin used in screenshot is called deluxe.
